There’s no room for my wings, by the Sivuhenkilöt working group, is a new premiere in which limbs hanging in the air meet awkward situations, collapsing office furniture and love for a human being. It tells a tale of emotional exclusion and reveals how things buried within tend to come out in the worst possible situation.

The fictional workplace sells personalised mugs and wall decals. Live Laugh Love. Smile every day. Unlike the slogans on the mugs, the hopes and emotions of the company’s five employees do not stay in line but fly out like birds against windows. The performance consists of aerial acrobatics, physical theatre, wings, weight, laughter and shame.

Sivuhenkilöt is a group founded in 2016 to combine modern circus and theatre, to celebrate astounding abilities and to seek ambiguous stage scenes. The group’s first performance called Sivuhenkilöt (Sidekicks) premiered at Suomenlinna in 2016 and received glowing reviews.

The performance is co-produced with Helsinki Festival and Cirko – Centre for New Circus. Premiere and first performance season took place in Cirko, Helsinki 28th August – 22nd September 2019.

SIVUHENKILÖT:
Sivuhenkilöt (Sidekicks) 2016

Sivuhenkilöt

Sidekicks (Sivuhenkilöt) uses elements of contemporary circus and theatre to explore what it feels like to touch and to have to go without being touched. Sidekicks takes the audience to unexpected situations: meeting a lady who is missing a limb and a man who has lost his face, dining with a misbehaving grandmother and dangling upside-down from a bedhead.

The performance combines text with physicality and visual elements and has been created by a team of theatre, dance and circus professionals. The performance had its premiere in Suomenlinna island in Helsinki in November 2016 as a part of What the Cirk? -minifestival organised by Cirko – Center for new circus.

Since the premiere Sidekicks was invited to Silence Festivals in Kittilä in June 2017 as well as to the main program of Tampere Theatre Festival in August 2017 and Pori Theatre Festival in September 2017.
The last Sidekicks performance took place in Oulu, at Culturehouse Valve and Flow-Circus Program in 31.1.-1.2.2019.
